Add a 'copy' icon function to contact card & url viewer

Hi team, I just realised having a “copy” icon function in contact card and url viewer as having these data copied to our clipboard (desktop & mobile) will be useful when we need to copy and paste them somewhere else

Thank you for sharing the suggestions. I think it should be possible to long-press, select, and copy text.

This request is covered by a workaround, and it is on the roadmap as live.

Problem

Email, phone, and URL values need to be copied to the clipboard on desktop and on a phone. The request is a copy icon on the contact card and on the URL field.

Why this is a workaround

The contact card’s actions are mail and phone. The URL opens. A separate copy icon was not added. The text is already on the screen, and the phone or the browser copies selected text. That gesture is the workaround, on both desktop and mobile.

How to use it

On a phone:

  1. Open the record that shows the contact card or the URL.
  2. Press and hold the email address, the phone number, or the URL until the system selection menu appears.
  3. Choose Copy.
  4. Open the app where you need the value, press and hold the field, and choose Paste.
  5. If the press opens mail, the dialer, or the browser instead of the selection menu, press and hold on the text of the value rather than on the mail or phone icon. The icons are the actions. The text is what you copy.

On a desktop browser:

  1. Open the same record.
  2. Click and drag across the email, the phone number, or the URL so it is highlighted.
  3. Copy with the browser menu or with Command-C on a Mac, or Control-C on Windows.
  4. Paste it into the destination.

The contact card still offers tap to mail and tap to dial. Use those when the next step is to write or to call. Use the copy gesture when the next step is another app.

If people copy the same value often, also show it in a heading or a text component with the label “Email” or “Link” so the text is easy to select. The value is the same property.
