New data entry in App created = to use the default page/template set in Notion

Hi team,

Just came to my mind, can a new data entry (page) in our database get to employ the default template that we may have set?

Asking this as I have set default template for new page/entry (I want to upkeep with the selected icon as a default for that visual ease) and would think a consistent experience be good, rather than having to go back to Notion and manually set the page icons

This request is on the roadmap. Status: not started.

Problem

A new row created in the app ignores the database’s default template in Notion. The default icon that template applies is missing, so makers open Notion afterward and set the icon by hand.

Who it is for

Makers who set a default template on a Notion database so every new page starts with the same body and the same icon.

What happens today

A row created in the app is a blank page. The database’s default template, including its default icon, is not applied. The same page created inside Notion does use that template.

Requirement

A row created in the app uses the database’s default template, the same template Notion uses for a new page.

The new row receives that template’s content and its default icon. A database with no default template still creates a blank row. The person does not have to open Notion to apply the icon.

Out of scope

This does not offer a picker of several templates at create time. It does not edit the template inside the app. It does not change rows that already exist.

Success criteria

  • Creating a row in the app produces the same starting content as creating a page with the database’s default template in Notion.
  • The default icon from that template is on the new row.
  • A database with no default template still creates a blank row.
  • An existing row is unchanged.
