Page content option for top of each page

It would be useful if there was a way to show page content at the top of each page. Let’s say a list of items, I’m assuming it would need to pull that content from a different page. It could be to display info about what that particular page is about.

Other priorities I voted on for me:
CSS/JS embed
Update item button on display one item page (user account edit)

This request is covered by a workaround, and it is on the roadmap as live.

Problem

A list, and other screens, need a short explanation at the top: what the page is for. The text might be written by the maker, or it might come from a Notion page.

Why this is a workaround

Page content is the body of a Notion page, and it is a component you can place on a screen. A heading or an HTML block is the component for a short note that does not live in Notion. Either one sits at the top of a list. A separate “intro field” on every screen type was not added.

How to use it

Use a heading when the note is a title or one short paragraph you write in the builder.

  1. Open the list screen.
  2. Add a Heading at the top, above the list.
  3. Write the explanation: what the list contains and what the person should do.
  4. Publish and read it on a phone. A long heading wraps. If the text is more than a title, use the HTML block instead.

Use an HTML block when the note needs simple formatting.

  1. On the same screen, add an HTML block at the top.
  2. Put the explanation in that block.
  3. Publish and check the published app. Custom JavaScript and custom CSS are separate settings. You do not need them for a paragraph.

Use page content when the explanation already lives on a Notion page, or when it is long enough to be a document.

  1. Put the explanation on a Notion page.
  2. On the list screen, add Show page content and choose that page.
  3. Place it at the top of the screen.
  4. Reload if you just created the page, then publish.
  5. Edit the Notion page when the instructions change. The screen picks up the new body. You do not edit the list to change the paragraph.

A heading is enough for “These are this week’s jobs.” Page content is the right block when the note is a real page, with its own updates.
